Chain Report Part 1
You’ve probably noticed that jewelry this season isn’t shy. Big, chunky cocktail rings and necklaces full of details are on the hands and necks of fashionable women everywhere. With a little forethought, you can wear this trend with the best of them and confidently rock the statement jewelry.
This is my first report on how chains and chains as accessories will be taking 2010 early by storm – You have to stay updated and watch for more!!
Kaia Stud Chain Necklace
Pyramid studded beads in multi-tone metals give this long layered necklace an unexpected bad-girl look. We love it alone or paired with additional statement necklaces to amplify your style cache.
Chunky chains evolved from their days on Mr.T’s neck to evoking a more polished, punky character. For all you good girls looking to add a little badass to your ensemble, adorn your collarbone with layered oversized chains. Hipsters, contrast your destroyed jeans and vests with a sleek gold chain bracelet. However you do it, make sure it’s chunky and make sure it’s funky.
Juicy Couture has a reputation for unabashed femininity, and their multi chain strand neckalce is a fine example. With touches in metal, fabric, and beading, it’s the kind of necklace that works great with weekend wear or on casual Fridays.
Newport News has a goldplated multi-chain mesh-covered beads accented with a mesh flower applique that shows a softer side of feminity. This would look beautiful against a fitted black top, and would be set off beautifully by wearing your hair in an updo.
Ben-Amun multi-chain necklace with purple enamel flower is the kind of special occasion jewelry you can see handing down to your daughter. A black velvet top, jeans, and black boots would set this lovely necklace off beautifully.
If you want to wear this trend, but are a little more reserved, then the ASOS long asymmetric muliti-layer snake chain necklace is perfect for you. With its plaited detail, it captures attention more quietly, and goes with everything from jeans and a turtleneck to you best work dresses.
The Alice + Olivia long crystal chain necklace is a fun, young piece that says you love jewelry and you’re not afraid to show it. Like with most other statement jewelry, it’s a good idea to keep other jewelry simple when you’re wearing this necklace.
Statement jewelry adds a touch of brightness and levity to the cold winter season. Just don’t overdo it, or you’ll end up feeling like you’re wearing snow chains!
There’s a new twist on an existing handbag trend, and it looks like our favorite celebs already have a head start! Rachel Bilson has been snapped out & about in Los Angeles carrying a dynamite new chain link handbag by Derek Lam, shown here.
Which brings me to the trend.. chain strap handbags! While this isn’t new (Chanel classic bags come to mind), they have started to appear in all shapes & sizes, with added touches like fringe & hardware. You may prefer shoulder bags, like Rachel, but satchels & top handle bags also have chains to choose from.
The color trend in handbags this season is quite varied – if you’re wearing basic black, don’t hesitate to add a splash of color (red, or purple), or even an interesting pattern like Marc Jacobs’ green & blue Misfit bag. Continue reading below…
Or stay with traditional & elegant black, with the chain strap providing some extra embellishment to your outfit. Personal favourite here at Treats and Threads is Anya Hindmarch Maddock handbag, we predict it will be an instant classic.
