Is Adam Lambert “For Your Entertainment?”
By Michelle Vaccaro
Adam Lambert’s performance on the American Music Awards is causing quite a stir.
Adam Lambert’s performance as “something everyone will be talking about tomorrow.” They were right. The 27-year-old’s performance of “For Your Entertainment” caused a ton of controversy. The act was overtly sexual, showing him pulling two people on a leash, kissing his male keyboardist, and a male dancer simulating oral sex.

Not surprisingly, ABC received tons of complaints from angry viewers, over 1,500. It caused the alphabet network to rethink allowing Lambert to perform on Wednesday’s Good Morning America. ABC said in a statement, “Given Adam Lambert’s controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.” The network decided scrap his appearance. Lambert says he respects ABC’s decision and commented to E!’s Ryan Seacrest saying, “They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren’t happy about it. I respect their decision—I don’t necessarily agree with it, but they need to do what they need to do.” But the show will go on…CBS took advantage of the situation and booked Lambert on Wednesday’s The Early Show to perform and talk about the controversy.

Does the reaction to his act show America’s prudeness or less acceptance of the gay lifestyle? The openly gay singer believes there is a double standard for gay men. Many are comparing Sunday’s performance to Madonna’s VMA 2003 kiss with Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, but saying there wasn’t as much of a backlash.
Whether good or bad, Lambert is in the limelight right now…and what good timing it is! His album “For Your Entertainment” arrived in stores this week. We’ll soon find out whether the controversy helped push CDs sales.
